FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO JOIN SAIPPA?

✔  Any company or organisation with commercial or developmental interests in the independent production of electrical energy in Southern Africa is eligible for membership as long as the company or organisation is not a state owned enterprise.

✔  Any person or institution can participate in the activities of the association, as an associate, provided that such person or entity has provided written permission to the association in terms of the Protection of Personal Information Act, to receive notices and newsletters from the association, and have paid such attendance or participation fees as may be prescribed from time to time.

✔  Associates will not be entitled to vote at meetings of members.

✔  All applications to participate as associates of the association are subject to approval of the management committee. 

 CAN SAIPPA ASSIST ME IN MY OWN BUSINESS?

✔  SAIPPA indirectly supports members in their businesses through its various activities and programmes – thus helps to strengthen their businesses eventually

✔  SAIPPA does not DIRECTLY support members in their own businesses

✔  As a member, SAIPPA offers the opportunity for active engagement and lobbying in the areas that are most relevant to yourself within the IPP sector. It is also an effective platform to keep abreast of the industry developments along with widening your networking horizons assisting you to become a recognized industry player.

  CAN SAIPPA ASSIST ME IN ADDRESSING AND/OR MAKING PRESENTATION/S ON MY OWN BUSINESS-SPECIFIC PROBLEMS?

✔  SAIPPA has not yet developed the capacity to do such. The most that can be done is a referral to an appropriate institution. 

  DOES SAIPPA OFFER TRAINING FOR ITS MEMBERS?

✔  No training is being worked on but training advice could be provided.

 CAN I DO BUSINESS WITH SAIPPA?

✔  NO

    IS A BUSINESS ALLOWED TO MARKET ITS PRODUCTS AND SERVICES WITHIN SAIPPA?

✔  NO


  AS A MEMBER CAN I ASK FOR ANY INFORMATION FROM SAIPPA? 

✔  In so far as IPP issues are concerned that is permissible and such also depends on SAIPPA’s ability to access such information.

✔  A member must also make regular use of the website especially the Library.


AS A NON-MEMBER CAN I ASK FOR INFORMATION FROM SAIPPA? 

✔  Non-members have access only to information that is in the public domain of the SAIPPA website.

  

  DOES SAIPPA WORK WITH OTHER IPP ORGANISATIONS WITHIN SOUTH AFRICA AND IN OTHER COUNTRIES?

✔       YES


DOES SAIPPA WORK WITH OTHER ORGANISATIONS WITHIN SOUTH AFRICA AND IN OTHER COUNTRIES?

✔  Yes especially other (sector-based) associations, business organisations.

✔ SAIPPA is part of the IPP Platform (SAIPPA, EIUG, FFF, PAMSA, SAAEA, SABIA, SAIPPA, SAPVIA, SASA, SASTELA, SAUCGA, SAWEA and SESSA)


  HOW DOES SAIPPA REPRESENT MY COMPANY ON VARIOUS TOPICAL ISSUES THAT AFFECT MY BUSINESS?

✔  SAIPPA engages with various government institutions and other organisations to raise issues of interest for and that affect members as well as issues of common interest with other IPP organisations. Current and future engagements are with:

SAIPPA intends to engage its supporters who are non-members in a more active manner in order to become a more effective and influential industry body promoting the needs of IPP’s as well as the industry itself in South Africa and the SADC region.

WHAT DOES SAIPPA EXPECT FROM ME AS AN INDIVIDUAL MEMBER?

✔  Participate in the activities of the Working Groups i.e.


  1. Grid and Embedded Access Workgroup
  2. Wheeling Working Group
  3. Cogeneration Working Group
  4. Gas Working Group
  5. Coal-based Load Working Group
  6. BBC-BUSA Working Group


✔  Attend SAIPPA meetings, seminars, breakfasts

✔  Recruit other companies and/or individuals into SAIPPA

✔  Write articles on IPP and contribute in SAIPPA Twitter, Facebook and LinkeIn pages

✔  Volunteer on various activities of SAIPPA

✔  Make other contributions in kind to advance the aims, objectives and programmes of SAIPPA

✔  Participate in:

  1. SAIPPA NEEDS SURVEY FOR MEMBERS and encourage participation in
  2. SURVEY FOR SAIPPA SUPPORTERS/NON MEMBERS

✔  Attend events – conferences, symposia, roundtables, workshops that deal with power issues


  HOW DO I OFFER SPONSORSHIP TO SAIPPA?

✔  Sponsorship offers for members meetings or events are acceptable.

✔  With regards to SAIPPA events, external conference offers, vendor participation or sponsorships shall be:

o   Allowed  as long as they do not dilute the own offerings of SAIPPA

o   Permitted on a first come first offered basis for any event

✔  Vendor sponsors can only be mentioned on the actual marketing material of an event as a sponsor by reference, but not as branding on the SAIPPA general website or in the form of advertisements.

✔  Acknowledgement of the sponsor’s contribution in the SAIPPA website shall be permitted on condition that such acknowledgement shall not exceed 90 days.
